If you don't register BB, it'll still keep going the same way forever and ever. BB uses the auto update system from GAPS, so you can check for new versions whenever you like. Using BB is about as simple as it gets. Look in preferences to set the URL of the image you want to watch and to choose how often to refresh the picture.
